Congratulations to Elise Needham who was been awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851! 🎉 She aims to determine genetic influences on cellular signalling by performing genome-wide association studies on protein post-translational modifications.

PGS Catalog has made important updates including (1) adjusting for continuous ancestry PC in PGS calculation and (2) scalable pipeline for computing many PGS. This will make applications such as trait-wide association of PGS or constructing PRSmix simpler.

Excited to share our new preprint describing updates to the PGS Catalog (PGSCatalog.org ) and the PGS Catalog Calulator (pgsc_calc), a new tool for reproducible PGS calculation in the context of genetic ancestry (github.com/PGScatalog/pgs…). Just in time for #ESHG24! /🧵

Congrats to co-authors Kim van Daalen and Dudan Zhang, along with Lisa Pennells, Emanuele Di Angelantonio, Stephen Kaptoge, and Ellie Paige, have published a thorough review of cardiovascular disease risk scores. They recommend regular recalibration in your target population.

Find yourself a supportive lab because even with one, it can be a stressful experience as you transition from taught courses and are used to aceing exams, to finding it really challenging to conduct novel independent research and handling failure (often).

Out in Nature Communications! Abdominal aortic aneurysm is a serious condition where the abdominal aorta enlarges & can rupture CEU colleagues used a polygenic risk score (PRS) to investigate the genetic risk & if you can use PRS to inform age for screening 🔗 tinyurl.com/mr3mupbc

Congratulations Claire Coffey on passing your PhD viva (it's not everyday your first PhD student graduates)! It's been a pleasure to supervise your work applying algorithmic fairness techniques to risk prediction models and polygenic scores with Angela Wood & Mike Inouye.
