I've recently put together a "Fairness FAQ": tinyurl.com/fairness-faq. If you work in non-fairness ML and you've heard about fairness, perhaps you've wondered things like what the best definitions of fairness are, and whether we can train algorithms that optimize for it.

I'm not in the CVPR community, but I'm not a fan of this. The most rewarding part of reviewing for me is to see and engage with the perspectives of other researchers within my community. Being part of something bigger than myself. This makes the process more soulless.

This might be the first large-scale application of AI technology to geopolitics.. 4o, o3 high, Gemini 2.5 pro, Claude 3.7, Grok all give the same answer to the question on how to impose tariffs easily.

LLM benchmarks measure raw AI capabilities, but what happens when LLMs are actually used by people is different. Our new work introduces ChatBench, a benchmark for human-LLM interaction, and analyzes these interactions in a large randomized experiment.

In the absence of federal action, the states have led the way for years on pushing forward common sense AI policy. This is really not good.

Have you ever felt that AI fairness was too strict, enforcing fairness when it didn’t seem necessary? How about too narrow, missing a wide range of important harms? We argue that the way to address both of these critiques is to discriminate more 🧵

Congrats to Yiwei Lu on a PhD successfully defended. His thesis will be a great reference point for students interested in data poisoning. For ~25% of the committee Qs, Yiwei responded with "great question, and we're working on it now...", so I'm excited to see what comes next!
