Meet Emma Chesley Emma Chesley (she/her), the Benthic Ecology Lab’s new research technician. Emma earned her B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2022. Born and raised in Nebraska, it can be surprising to find out she’s so interested in the ocean.

Dolphins, manatees, and rays oh my! A week after #HurricaneIan, we were happy to be in the #field to perform our 4th quarter #monitoring. Although the brunt of the storm didn't hit this region, we’re keen to process samples to see how the #infauna communities fared.📸Emma Chesley (she/her)

My final day as a SmithsonianMarineStn #postdoc with this wonderful team -including those not in the group photo today! Thank you all this memorable experience. Excited to continue collaborating for more groundbreaking #research on the impact of ocean deoxygenation on #coralreefs 🪸

#DYK today is #WorldWetlandsDay? Celebrate it by taking a tour of the #softbottomhabitat we study in the #IndianRiverLagoon (IRL). Thanks to Emma Chesley (she/her) 's📽️ & Scott Jones for 🤿in #FL’s frigid Jan waters. #savethewetlands #essentialforall #kidneysoftheearth #loveyourlagoon

So excited to announce that I was awarded the U.S. National Science Foundation GRFP!!! I’m still completely shocked, this is truly a dream come true! I’m forever thankful for all the support from my family, friends, and mentors. Grateful to be pursuing my passions in coral reef science! 🪸🇵🇷

Had a great time at #BEM2023 sharing my research on UV-A light as an antifoulant in marine vessel plumbing systems. SMS Benthic Ecology Lab

New #OA paper in Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS)📢 Assessing genetic differentiation for species with high gene flow can be challenging. We show that #relatedness can be a useful tool to detect isolation-by-distance & can help with #MPA design if carefully applied🧬🐟 ▶️int-res.com/abstracts/MEPS…

Amazing performance by the Casey lab at the 52nd Benthic Ecology Meeting! 🧬🐠 Shoot out to Hannah Rempel Zoé Delecambre for winning best presentation awards 🏆#BEM2024
