West Texas #earthquake upgraded to a 5.0 — one of the strongest on record in the state. Located east of Snyder, where there was a 4.9 quake on 7/22. It hit this morning at 9:30, felt as far away as Dallas.

.Greg Abbott asked CenterPoint Energy to tell him by today how it plans to get through the rest of hurricane season. CenterPoint CEO Jason Wells said in a legislative hearing that the company submitted that document last week. We haven't seen it yet but would like to.

The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association insures property on the coast for people who can't find private insurance. But the group says it isn't generating enough revenue. Remember the wildfires that tore across the Texas Panhandle in February? Power lines strung for oil and gas operations were blamed for two. We found those power lines are effectively unregulated in Texas -- despite past efforts to bring them up to code. texastribune.org/2024/08/01/tex…
