I do not know where the 500 number for Philadelphia homicides in 1990 came from. Police stats and Jan. 1991 stories put it at 525. Early 1992 newspapers also cite the 525 number for 1990. First reference I can find to 500 is in the Inquirer in 2006; a 2001 chart puts it at 504.
