Trees in #Bath are decorated with beautiful birds. I love watching Pied Wagtails gather to roost at dusk in winter. Wishing you a merry Christmas.

Tawny Owls are quiet tonight as the snow falls in #Bath. The grand old trees in my local park look beautiful with their shadowy branches backlit by the snowy sky. I felt like I was the only one there until I could smell a fox sitting under a hedgerow 🤍🦊

I love midwinter. The warming sun, unfurling daylight, displaying Buzzards, clattering Jackdaws, busying birds, emerging snowdrops, frosty cheeks, tree silhouettes at sunset, hooting owls, barking foxes, twinkly starry skies, and Orion ✨🦊🦉

Golden sunset waves at The Cobb in Lyme Regis. I love it here especially in winter. Turnstones, Rock Pipets and wagtails meander along the harbour wall, stopping now and again to look out to sea 🌊🧡

Heard my first singing Blackbird of 2025. It joined in with the Robins in the dusk chorus. 🎶🎶🐦‍⬛ Its fluting melodic notes filled my heart ❤️ 📷 Roger Wilmshurst

A stroll along the River Chew. Birdsong now overlaps in the evening chorus. A Song Thrush serenades them all 🎶🐦‍⬛ Otters and a Beaver have been seen along this stretch of the river. Would be a dream to see either

A #FoxoftheDay in words! Hard to ignore right now, foxes pique all the senses as they go a 'woo-oo-ooing'; musky notes of singed fur, sandalwood, spice & hawthorn flowers abound, though I must keep quiet on the delicate matter of their whereabouts... theguardian.com/environment/20…

Wonderful to watch this Water Rail foraging along the banks of the River Chew in Somerset. Winter is the best season to spot this secretive bird 💚

The BTO Spring 2025 Edition of their member’s magazine is wonderful! I especially loved Will Rose artwork, Annie Booker illustrated article ‘Healed by Birds’ & Cudyll Cymru on raptor monitoring in Wales 🦅🦉

Heard my first ever Scops Owl last night! They’ve just arrived back in Catalonia to breed after overwintering in Africa. Five were calling back to our Scops Owl whistle calls! 🦉💚

Heard this beautiful nightingale singing in a park in Budapest 🎶A tragedy that the UK’s nightingale population has declined by 90%. They used to sing in our parks! Decline linked to breeding & winter habitat quality as shown by BTO GPS tracking study ➡️bto.org/our-science/pu…

What a phenomenal week! The Osprey chick we ringed in Staffordshire in 2023 with Roy Dennis Foundation & Tim Mackrill has returned! He was seen fishing in the county on Thursday. The survival rate for migrating young birds is only thought to be around 30%. An incredible record!!!
