Reminds me of one of the most brilliant things a prof has said to me, “But do you want to be studying the thing that you’re measuring?” #ResearchLife 🥴

Was looking for a post about ER & stumbled upon my own from earlier this year. Not a bad #FluorescenceFriday find. Love that ER-targeted GCaMP - CMXRos combo in DRG cultures.

The recent rise of tech bio arm chair pseudo-“scientists” has made me think about this a lot & the parts I would emphasize/add are: (1) designing, executing, interpreting your own experiments AND (2) presenting or defending that work in some type of scientific review process.

Harvard generally (waves hand) has a bad, cut throat rep. That might be true for some areas, but gotta share that in my experience people have been nothing but helpful. Special shoutout to those kind souls who help make the science science.

You know it’s January in Boston when it’s 39 deg F & you find yourself saying, “Wow it’s such a nice day for a bike ride.”

Stop telling young researchers that their technical contributions don't count as intellectual ones. The vast majority of modern techniques used in bioscience labs require skills & careful thought to execute. The people doing this work use their intellect to get it done.

SfN abstract was excepted for a nanosymposium presentation in the "Aging: models & mechanisms" session 🥳. It's the very last one of the meeting (Wed 1-5 PM), but excited nonetheless and optimistic for an awesome meeting. Hope to see you there! Society for Neuroscience (SfN)

So happy to share that I was chosen for a TPDA award from Society for Neuroscience (SfN), which provides critical support for conference attendance. I’m excited to share my work at the Early Career Poster Session on Sat & in a nanosymposium on Wed (with preprint coming soon!). Hope to see you there!

Faculty: what do you think is the most important document in the tenure track job application package? After seeing guidance that the research statement is NOT the most important I’m curious, is there a single most important document? (I have a guess)

Our paper simulating fluorescence lifetime in real-life experiments is now a Version of Record eLife - the journal! We hope it helps FLIM users with more rigor and innovation. If you are interested in turning our innovation proposals into reality, we welcome motivated people to join our lab.

Elated to share that our paper examining the subtype-specific vulnerability and resilience of auditory neurons to noise-induced and age-related synaptopathy is now up on Biorxiv! So happy to finally share what has been a major component of my postdoc work. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
