It’s been very quiet here on social media, but busy in the real world. A few insights into training with athletes from judo, wrestling, taekwondo and karate. And yes, a smith machine is pretty useful! 😅

On my way back to Riyadh after a few great days in Lisbon with the RugbyScienceNetwork. I‘m very grateful for the opportunity to present and share my ideas around preparing female players for collisions. I‘m looking forward to more research in this field. World Rugby

The first publication is always a bit special. Thanks to Zoe and Kirsty for writing this editorial. “While addressing injury risks is important, an excessive focus on protection may inadvertently hinder female athletes’ development and performance.” bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/…

Let’s not pretend that adjusting training programmes to accommodate negative (physiological or psychological) symptoms is a new concept. Adding ‘menstrual cycle’ into this sentence ⬆️ makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE to the point! This is training 101 and coaching 101.

Jiujitsu and judo athletes are best served with higher intensity low volume strength training approaches. Volume ruins jacket wrestlers faster than than anything else. They get enough on the mats.

2024 in 60 seconds. I traveled to 17 countries, my athletes won a few international medals, I worked with some legendary coaches, I went out of my comfort zone multiple times and did more things right than wrong, I think. Life’s been good. On to 2025… ✌🏼

One of the most underrated aspects of longterm rehab like e.g. ACL injury: Integrating the athlete back into the training group as early as possible and not making him feel isolated and alone. Mental wellbeing is so important for rehab.

There’s nothing worse than losing a young athlete to a tragic accident. My heart goes out to his family, friends and the taekwondo community. 💔 RIP Youssef 🤍
