Can’t believe I’m tweeting my dire financial situation - but here I am speaking at our Bristol UCU rally. Being a lecturer is an aspirational job, which we work towards for yrs - our pay doest reflect it. It’s not enough to raise a family. And I’m one of the lucky ones…

...But remember, kids, Strikes Don't Work, and the correct way to defend your working and living conditions is to do some other sort of thing which nobody ever quite manages to specify beyond that it's definitely not anything like calling a strike (because Strikes Don't Work).

Any concessions won through taking strike action will benefit my postdocs, and any of of my students who stay in academia. One of the reasons I strike is because I want a good deal for them and the rest of my ECR colleagues. Striking is a direct act of care.
