Immune checkpoint inhibitors are used to treat many types of cancer, but talking with patients about immunotherapy can be confusing. Ronac Mamtani Erin Bange MD MSCE and I developed a JAMA Oncology Patient Page to help clinicians and patients with this conversation. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaoβ¦

Amazing work by Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation YIA recipient Erin Bange MD MSCE on using symptom monitoring to improve amount of time patients spend on cancer care #ASCO22

"Early in medical school, we learned that only 20% of healthcare occurs within a doctorβs office. The other 80% originates outside the medical setting, where social determinants of health β oneβs home, work, etc β are far more influential" Carmen Guerra everydayhealth.com/lung-cancer/woβ¦

Weβre also appreciative of the patients who were willing to participate and the manuscript reviewers JAMA Network Open who strengthened the paper and itβs conclusions

π’In many ways, #telemedicine is true patient-centered care. Fumiko Ladd Chino, MD, FASCO, Erin Bange, & I wrote this piece about how health care systems highlight desire to be pt-centered but offer telemedicine sparingly or begrudgingly. Why are we not walking the walk? rdcu.be/dfpaM

π»π² Rapidly deployed during the pandemic, #telemedicine has now been sharply scaled back. Continued offering of a #Telehealth visit option may allow true patient-centered care. New editorial in NatureRevClinOncol: how to walk the walk for patient access. rdcu.be/dfpaM

A study led by Erin Bange MD MSCE & Penn Medicine assessed text messaging to help people with cancer spend less time in the clinic. Patients who had normal bloodwork and reported no symptoms could skip an extra visit, saving about an hour per appointment. bit.ly/3EWgshN
