NEW: DC's lottery and sports betting contractors will pay $6.5 million for defrauding the District. Intralot and VSC conspired to win DC's lucrative sports betting contract by deceiving officials about their compliance with DC small business contracting laws. It was all a sham.

Conditions at MetroAccess under WeDriveU are unacceptable. Leaving workers to freeze and riders with disabilities to wait is unconscionable. Metro Forward must step in and take responsibility. Metro Forward Randy Clarke, it is time to bring MetroAccess in house. atulocal689.org/press/wedriveu…

Thankful to DC Public Library for free, accessible, timely programming like tonight’s discussion featuring Martin Luther King III and Arndrea Waters King with moderator Laura Coates. Insightful reflections on public service, community, and collective efforts to fight poverty, racism, and violence.

I always forget that D.C. has a fair number of households that don’t own a car. I mean, 36% is nothing to sneeze at. It feels like so many more cars are out there because of Virginia and Maryland drivers, and that seems to disproportionately drive political discussions.

Such a pleasure to join Anacostia Riverkeeper for their Pope Branch cleanup. Love love love that their cleanups produce meaningful data that informs local policy - including the recently proposed container deposit bill! đź’šđź’šđź’š

On this day 109 yrs ago, transit workers in DC facing inhumane and abusive conditions came together with demands as simple as they were eloquent: treat us with dignity and give us a say in our economic destiny. Chartered as Local 689, our Union has kept that spirit ever since.

I’m grateful for your life. I’m honored by your legacy. I’m growing in your teachings. May our commemoration move beyond quoting you (often in ways that are intentionally misaligned with your principles and steps of nonviolence) to hopeful, strategic, mass nonviolent action.

Today, we observe the life of Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who railed against racial injustice. King's widow, Coretta Scott King, continued his work, mobilizing the Poor People's Campaign (1968) and the federal holiday honoring King's life and legacy (1983).

I invite you to honor my mother, #CorettaScottKing, with me. Without her, there would be no federal holiday commemorating my father’s birthday. And The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, which she founded less than three months after Daddy was assassinated, would not exist. I’m grateful for her
