The Trump administration has privately demanded that the University of Virginia oust its president to help resolve a Justice Department investigation into the school’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts nytimes.com/2025/06/26/us/…

Roberts court folds. Justice Sotomayor: “The rule of law is not a given in this Nation, nor any other. It is a precept of our democracy that will endure only if those brave enough in every branch fight for its survival. Today, the Court abdicates its vital role in that effort”

Historian of Reconstruction here the Supreme Court is behaving like its predecessor in the late 19th century when it gutted the Reconstruction constitution and federal civil rights laws. It refused to implement the 14th amendment against Trump and now he has a blank check.

My apologies for the internet connection tonight on MSNBC. I was trying to say that we tend to view the role of the Supreme Court through the lens of the Warren Court. But in moments of deep backlash and retrenchment, the court has historically played a deeply problematic role.

In effect, the Supreme Court ruled that only it could decide issues on a national level. And then, with thousands and thousands of people waiting in limbo for resolution of many legally disputed Trump orders, the justices went on summer vacation, not to return until October.

With the passage of the "big, ugly bill,” the U.S. Senate said it was okay to fire 20,000 Kentucky health-care workers, close 35 rural hospitals in our state and throw over 200,000 of our people off insurance. 1/2

The bill will kill tens of thousands of Americans and impoverish millions more to grant million-dollar tax cuts to Trump and other billionaires. It will gut the ACA. And it will do nothing to solve the cost-of-living crisis that propelled Trump into office theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

This is footage from today in MacArthur Park. Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through. The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW. Absolutely outrageous.
