National Science Honor Society members learned of possibilities in the STEM field thanks to a recent visit from ESM Class of 2003 alumna Dr. Sharon Pepenella and sr. research programs representative at BNLs Laboratory’s Office of Workforce Development and Science Education.

Tuttle second grade students Matthew Sarmiento, Brayden Sparks and Connor Turitto were regional winners in the First in Math Virtual Regional Tournament and have now qualified for the 2025 First in Math NY State Mathematics Championship Finals to be held in Albany on May 31.

South Street Shines and South Street School collected 2,341 books during the April book drive for the Book Fairies organization. These ESM students will impact Long Island communities working to increase access to books and literacy-based resources.

Eastport Elementary School students learned the fundamentals of putting together a newscast, under the direction of Emmy Award winning journalist Cheryl Wills of Spectrum TV News/NY 1.

Thirty-four students from Eastport Elementary and thirty-four students from Dayton Avenue School participated in the Suffolk Zone Fit Club Challenge, held at Lincoln Elementary School in Sayville.

Last night ESM was recognized for their 10+ years of collaborative excellence with the many science and research programs offered through Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Upon completion of a poetry unit, first grade students in Victoria Reid’s class at Tuttle Avenue School shared their best and final works during a Poetry Café.

Third grade is using Nystrom Encompass: Connections Social Studies program, a hands-on curriculum that transforms geography into an adventure and uses interactive globes, colorful maps, and engaging activities for topics like community, government, and global awareness.

The District welcomes Savana Calarco, Bradley Eisner, Robert Frontino, Alyson Heimann, Alyssa Marinelli, Krystina Muller, Drew O'Connor, Tiffany Patterson, Meghan Piotti, and Alexandra Yereshchenko. The new ESM faculty were officially welcomed during the May 20 BOE meeting.
