I really appreciate that you brought up the importance of being curious about other cultures. We must help students develop that mindset, and guide them in understanding how their own cultural background enhance their language learning while still staying true to who they are.

Use of diverse literature helps for sure; I would like to know some titles that DL teachers are using to build cultural competence.
