This is despicable, and those responsible must be held accountable. I’m ashamed to have leaders who hold human beings with such contempt.

Apropos of nothing, seems like a relevant fact right now. Immigrants commit crimes at a lower rate than native born Americans. hamiltonproject.org/assets/files/I…

The world has more guest workers than the entire labor force of Poland. The economic effects on households are hard to measure. My new paper: “Measuring the Spatial Misallocation of Labor: The Returns to India-Gulf Guest Work in a Natural Experiment” cgdev.org/publication/me…

Coming up on Morning Joe with more on our exclusive reporting. Emails show Trump administration was scrambling and failing spectacularly to link 2000+ separated parents and kids *the same day* they claimed they had a "central database" to reunite them. nbcnews.com/politics/immig…

Tomorrow the U.S. Administration announces its latest scheme to bar immigrants —> thehill.com/homenews/admin… Remember: its last plan for "merit based" immigration concealed the fact that it would have *reduced* the number of university grads by 18% —> cgdev.org/blog/how-trump…

School desegregation is in the news. I have worked on these questions with Elizabeth U. Cascio Nora Gordon Ethan G. Lewis! A thread on some of the things we learned about the Federal role in deseg in the 50s, 60s, 70s. (Many have written on this; I summarize some of my own work here.)

Occasionally citizens or green card holders are mistakenly removed. Asylum seekers are also not supposed to be removed through this process, but that sometimes happens too.

We are about to amp up expedited removals. As Tara describes in her thread, this will exacerbate such unjust abuse. By the way, interior enforcement has not been found to improve labor market outcomes or to reduce crime.

Let's let in anybody from Hong Kong who wants to come. They are some of the most productive people in the world being oppressed by a brutal regime. Let them in.

“Reopening the economy” without reopening schools is a fool’s errand: “The economy will not really ‘open up,’ and life will not return to normal, as long as parents don’t have any place to send our children during the day.” nytimes.com/2020/04/22/opi…
