Congratulations to Anna, this was a big data science challenge that you successfully led. The results open the door to future applications of spaceborne spectroscopy for large-scale plant beta diversity monitoring in places where field data are scarce (most of the Earth).

CABO Science acquired imaging spectroscopy data over SBL UdeM and we are collecting foliage using @DeLeavesDrone over the next 2 weeks to map canopy chemistry and tree species.

First keynote talk at a big conference tomorrow. There are very many chairs. Excited but also a bit scared. I’ll be talking about robots 🤖 in plant 🌱 ecology. esa.org/montreal2022/p…

This sugar maple seems to have read the textbook on autumn senescence. If anthocyanins are there to shield leaves from excess light during senescence, it would make sense that they are expressed first and most strongly where light intensity is highest.

The r-lidar development team Université Laval is glad to announce the new lasR package that is complementary to the lidR package github.com/r-lidar/lasR The lasR package is intended to be much more powerful than lidR but also less versatile. It does NOT supersede lidR. #lidR

In this new study from our lab, Myriam Cloutier shows that segmentation of temperate trees from drone imagery works best at the onset of autumn when leaves start of deciduous trees start to change color. authors.elsevier.com/c/1jMU27qzT3EBA

So happy to announce that our team Limelight Rainforest won the #XPRIZERainforest competition! We delivered a canopy tree mapping solution using drones and AI that can transform tropical forest biodiversity monitoring. Thanks IVADO for the support.

Just days after winning #XPRIZERainforest we’re on BCI, Panamá to extend our 🌳🌴 mapping solution to (hopefully) the entire 1500-ha island! We’re installing an antenna to extend our operational range. Testing it tomorrow! Hope it works! 🤞

To win #XPRIZERainforest we developed an automatic workflow to acquire close-up photos of tropical trees to support biodiversity monitoring. Here’s what it looks like it action at Tiputini Biodiversity Station youtu.be/80goMEifpc4?fe…
