Sat, Oct 2 Hacon Cruise: We prepare for Aurora (ROV) and Borealis (TMS) second deep dive on the edge of the ice in the Arctic. Aurora hits the seabed at 1700 meters at 16:00 and takes its first sample at 16:12. By the time they are back on deck, 17:30, the ice has drifted to us.

We've reached the ice. Putting our new ROV Aurora to the test, its 5th dive under Arctic Ice more than 3000 m deep. The first ROV that has dived successfully to a hydrothermal vent under the ice.

We're flying high midway through the HACON high Arctic research cruise. When we're not busy using our ROV to descend & take samples at near 4000m depths, we're enjoying the outside decks on RV Kronprins Haakon and keeping warm in the great clothing supplied by our partner Aclima
