In honor of both Juneteenth and Pride, please consider donating to my and Laura Simone Lewis, PhD’s fundraiser for the Black Trans Advocacy coalition!! blacktrans.org/campaigns/june…

As a person in Harvard Department of Human Evolutionary Biology whose gender expression does not fit within the binary, it means a lot to me to have Laura Simone Lewis, PhD stand up for gender inclusive language in scientific and medical communication…of course she’s getting tons of hate from the trolls for it 🙄.

Our genome-wide functional screen of 3’UTR causal variants in human disease + evolution, using an MPRA for UTRs is out at Cell! An amazing team: Dustin Griesemer, Ryan Tewhey, J. Xue, and Pardis Sabeti, with new highlights since our preprint: cell.com/cell/fulltext/… 1/11

Advanced access for our publication is out in today! We use MPRA to identify introgressed Neanderthal variants that affect gene expression in immune cells and use TF binding, GWAS data, and CRISPR KOs to connect variants to immune function. Thx to @TDCapellini and all co-authors!

Excited to share our latest work on enhancer-promoter compatibility in preprint form! Compatibility logic of human enhancer and promoter sequences biorxiv.org/content/10.110… With an amazing team: co-first author @thouis, Jesse Engreitz, Charles Fulco and more 🧵👇 1/15

Beautiful example of how insights into genetic linkage of human alleles—originating via introgression from Neandertals—can accelerate identifying the genetic causes of health outcomes today: in this case, severe Covid-19. Evelyn Jagoda, PhD👩🏻‍🔬 @TDCapellini elifesciences.org/articles/71235

"There is grandeur in this view of life—that from so simple a beginning, endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved." Happy birthday to the one and only Charles Darwin. #DarwinDay

If anyone knows of any data science / pop gen positions in industry please get in touch! NYC area or remote. Color laid off ~50% of the company. Genomics R&D work basically out. Frustrating news, but proud of my contributions and grateful for all I learned & great colleagues.

Excited to share our collaboration with ENCODE to map enhancer-gene regulatory interactions across the human genome! We developed a new model that beats ABC by incorporating additional information on promoter class and enhancer-enhancer interactions. Thread 👇
