The v useful, free (originally only) nuclear power news service no2nuclearpower.org/category/news allows access behind paywalls. Eg the telegraph story on a geological disposal facilities (GDF) in Cumbria or Lincolnshire: โ€˜assuring the safety of the site for 300,000 yearsโ€™ for ยฃ53bn.

It is def more diff for women in some ways than when I started. Diversity is dreadful and has always been so. @jessbritton11 was PI on a report about this. We put forward solutions but resetting the REF is essential. A gd idea when started in 1992 - long past its sell by date.

European gas demand is expected to fall steeply in next 2 decades. We need to plan for decommissioning of gas infrastructure. Excellent job Gas Outlook Nick Cunningham summarising my recent paper with Richard Lowes RAP Claudia Kemfert DIW Berlin gasoutlook.com/analysis/europโ€ฆ

The suggested regional pricing is v close to what we have now & insufficient to deliver a โ€˜nextโ€™ phase energy system. NETA in 2000/2001 lasted 20+ years & always constrained RE/ DSM. If REMA continues like this itโ€™s a huge wasted op. And a win for the anti-NZ / change brigade.

ProfCatherineMitchell (@profcmitchell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Allowing it & DSM to participate by adding in local markets under GSPs would be transformational & change v little of the current market design except DSO/DSPs becoming participants in the national markets. Splitting national markets as well would be even better! Lost op now

Adding in local markets doesnt reduce the poss. of national or European regional markets. What it does is allow more granular local value to be captured so better compt and choice. Volumes may be small or big but itโ€™s not poss now despite being technically better/easy.

This is a great opportunity to join RAP and work on gas issues. You get to follow your instincts, work on the issues that drive you, work on international energy policy issues and work in a brilliant team. We are very excited to be able to share this!

Demand side flexibility / management is technically possible & good for consumers (cost of living issues / fuel poverty), the environment, security and competition. Reminder to everyone: Feb 28 is the end date for submissions to the Review of Ofgem. Please make your views known.

Yup - I doubt v much that Britain can magically deliver cheaper nuclear power plants. To my knowledge, thatโ€™s been the goal of the last 40 yrs. Moreover, they now act as giant boulders on a motorway in a smart energy system on a small island. Not a good way to keep prices down.

ProfCatherineMitchell (@profcmitchell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

another reminder of the Review of Ofgem - end date 28 Feb. UK has a set of institutions (incl Ofgem) which are not fit for purpose for delivering a rapid increase in the reduction of GHG emissions & a rapid move to SE which is gd for env, security and cost. They have to be reset.

ProfCatherineMitchell (@profcmitchell) 's Twitter Profile Photo

For anyone making a submission to the Ofgem Review (end date 28 Feb) key IGov documents are available on a new site igov.exeter.ac.uk It is a gd source of refs showing the laxity of Ofgem in meeting key regulatory challenges. Plus it sets out a fit for purpose governance

I agree Greg Jackson - itโ€™s v diff to know what is intended. The language leaves it open for many options. Is this disingenuous? Or does it mean we may get an energy system reset improved from zonal pricing (not difficult)? Absence of distribution discussion is major problem.
