This morning our medics were taken through a series of guidelines and practices around the touchy subject of Nerve repair by futurehealthafrica orthopedic surgeon Dr Rob Poulter, during a CME which is part of our ongoing Orthopedic Camp.

The Governor exhorted the teamwork, trust and integrity that the team of NTRH and futurehealthafrica medics have demonstrated over the course of the camp. He also outlined plans to accelerate the opening of a Medical Training College on Campus among other plans 2/4

Other leaders such as Health CECM Albert Wagurah Taiti also shared their appreciation of the work of the team while both Hospital CEO Dr Samuel Kilonzo and Camp team leader Dr Samuel Ndanya emphasised the role of the camp entrenching better healthcare services at our hospital 3/4

The camps which were born in 2009 have seen countless lives touched and have been a vehicle for transformation, not just for patients but foe medical practitioners also. 4/4

What an incredible time it’s been here in Kenya 🇰🇪 futurehealthafrica Orthopaedic Trauma Camp was a huge success in a wonderful new trauma centre in remote rural Nyabondo, Kenya 🇰🇪 We saw trauma injuries that we’d never see in the UK. (continued in 🧵 👇)

Pts that would have been operated on immediately in the UK, here had in some cases waited over 16 years, subsequently losing the ability to provide for their families! We genuinely changed peoples lives, in challenging, unpredictable situations, continued 👇

using limited resources, regular power cuts in theatre & next to no Physio equipment. We improvised with what we had. The local team were so welcoming and amazing! We truly followed the charities ethos of ‘working together, learning together’ to leave behind a positive impact…

and learn a tremendous amount ourselves. This week demonstrated just how powerful & effective great team work is! The week started a little precariously for me after falling ill & needing IV fluids and meds but luckily with a team of Drs around I recovered quickly.

Patients I will never forget & memories I’ll treasure forever! Kenya you’ve been incredible. Following some R&R plus safari it’s time to come home to the most important people in my life. 🇰🇪 😊 All photos in post with consent

I am glad to have joined the management and doctors of the Pearl Hospital in Nyahururu in launching and dedication of CT scan cancer treatment and fertility/IVF services. I commended the collective effort of partners in making the establishment of Pearl Hospital a reality.

NTRH early this morning held the first meeting for the post-orthopaedic camp briefings. The interdepartmental consultation sought to assess the success, gaps and opportunities for improvement not just for the camp but also for routine service delivery. #Thread

Beyond the core mission of helping mop up needy cases in the community, the camp offers an opportunity for the hospital to test its capacities to establish a clearer picture of the readiness of staff, infrastructure and supply chains for general preparedness.

The numbers during the camp test our systems, giving us the true assessment of existing strengths and weaknesses. The immense positive feedback from all departments involved, a clear evidence that the teams used last year’s experience to build an even better response this year.

NTRH extends sincere gratitude to volunteers, organisations, private businesses and community members whose generosity made the camp a success.
