Jesus is still on the Cross. One of the men crucified with him asks if Jesus will remember him. Jesus tells him that he will be with him in paradise.

Jesus is still on the Cross. Crowds entering Jerusalem for the Passover call out to him, mocking, "you said you would destroy the Temple, you saved others, save yourself now!" The land is still dark.

Jesus is still on the Cross. The end is nearing. Jesus raises his head and cries to the heavens, "My God, my God- why have you forsaken me?"

Jesus' body remains on the Cross. An earthquake rocks Jerusalem. The Temple is hit hard, and the Temple veil, separating the Holy of Holies from the rest of the Temple, is ripped apart. Graves, torn open by the earthquake, release the dead, who rise and return to their loved ones

Jesus' body is still on the Cross Throughout the Roman Empire the custom of officials was to leave bodies as long as possible as visual deterrents. Jewish Law forbade bodies from remaining after sundown. Jewish leaders approach Pilate and remind him that it must be completed soon

Jesus' body is still on the Cross On orders from Pilate, the soldiers break the legs of the thieves. Not being able to push themselves up, they will suffocate from the weight of their own bodies. Seeing Jesus is already dead, yet to be sure, they stab Him in the side with a spear

Jesus' body is still on the Cross, and time is short. Joseph of Arimathea, a follower of Christ, approaches Pilate to ask permission to remove Jesus' body. Permission is granted. Joseph will buy the linen and spices for burial as well as give his personal, private tomb.

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus remove Jesus from the Cross. Mary's time with him is short. He must be placed in the tomb before sundown.

Jesus is placed in the tomb. He is quickly wrapped, but the full burial ceremony cannot be completed. Someone will have to return after the Sabbath, on Sunday morning, to finish the burial. The tomb is sealed. Mary and those disciples present go home, left with their despair.

Our monthly resource is "Delighting in the Trinity." The Christian life is rooted in our triune God— Father, Son, and Spirit. We hope this book helps you grow in your enjoyment of God and see how God's triune being makes all His ways beautiful.
