This morning I sat with a #farmer on the verge of a #MentalHealthCrisis for 2 hours because of worries he has over the BBC News (UK) representation and bias on #climatechange yesterday and the current #beefcrisis Farmers Guardian National Farmers' Union minette batters

Our farm is 50 tonnes a year carbon positive (and with our new restored peat bog and tree planting will actually be much better than that)... Was audited by @FarmC02Toolkit

I think it's the livestock issue that is confusing the issue. The mass production of meat using imported feed is totally different from a mixed farm system that improves soil functionality.

“Mindlessly jumping on the ‘all beef is bad’ bandwagon as Goldsmiths, University of London have done is counterproductive,” says Patrick Holden. We need to reduce industrially produced meat but recognise the important role of grass fed livestock telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/08/1… The Telegraph

It’s now the time of year when we need and appreciate our local auction mart. As another meat co opens a Cumbrian collection centre please remember marts are needed 52 weeks a year #useorlose #auctions #competition

Around 1/3 drinking water in UK is supplied by groundwater. By 2080 g-water recharge season/yr will likely shorten (aut-spring), but volumes/yr will remain broadly the same- ergo higher likelihood of drought conditions in summer & more water to manage over winter #climatechange

Soil tests are in! The permanent pasture soil in this field has 18% organic matter - mostly carbon. It’s about 1 hectare. In essence Kitty and her mates over the years have helped store over 300 tonnes of carbon in this field alone. Kitty, keep eating and pooing!! Thankyou x

Radio 4 More or Less was analysing carbon created by leg of lamb today. Compared to flight to NewYork 639kg and 2.5kg joint created 92kg from Welsh farm study. Can anyone supply the study on which this is based?
