🔴 “This is a historic day. It is a victory for journalism. It is a victory for press freedom. Julian Assange is finally free!” RSF’s Rebecca Vincent on the implications of the Assange plea deal, and the future of our campaigning to protect national security journalism.

Having worked for Reuters in Baghdad-before Collateral Murder was filmed, but with many colleagues in the bureau that day-Assange's persecution has felt personal, as well as an outrage. It's been a privilege to fight for him at RSF this past 18 mths and today is a JOY.

#UK: RSF has launched a new online training course for exiled journalists based in the UK, in partnership with NCTJ. The course provides an introduction to the UK media industry, including topics like media law, public affairs and writing styles. rsf.org/en/uk-reporter…

Today marks 7 years since #US-#UK journalist Christopher Allen was killed covering the conflict in #SouthSudan. After this year’s botched investigation by local authorities, RSF calls on the FBI to lead its own investigation and deliver the justice Allen’s family deserves.

‼️RSF is alarmed by reports that #ZhangZhan was apprehended by police when visiting her hometown & taken to Shanghai, where she’s been heavily surveilled since her May release from prison. Her location is unknown & she has not been heard from for 2 days. We ask:

RSF is extremely worried for #ZhangZhan, who is reportedly being held by police at Shanghai detention centre for unclear reasons. She’s already served 4 years in prison for no crime but her journalism. It’s imperative that the Chinese authorities #FreeZhangZhan once and for all!
