A factor motivating #SEAMES is the rate SE Aus waters are warming. Conditions from marineheatwaves.org say that E TAS is currently having a moderate warming event. How this affects nearby Marine Parks is why we are out here CSIRO FRDC UN Ocean Decade #RVInvestigator

#SEAMES is revisiting an earlier 1990's ecosystem survey to see has changed. Here is 1 of 10 species seen so far that was not caught in the original survey. A Sydney Skate. A big thank-you to fishgirl for all the help. #RVInvestigator CSIRO FRDC UN Ocean Decade

We sampled at 500m yesterday, and found this Coffin fish, and a few Glass eels. I can't stress the importance of the #taxonomists, fishgirl on #SEAMES and an excitable and eager Science team are grateful for their patience CSIRO FRDC UN Ocean Decade

Sygnathids, include sea horses and pipefish, are fascinating, surprisingly resilient and protected in Australia. #SEAMES caught these pregnant males - a term you don't see very often - on #RVInvestigator, and fishgirl released them alive. CSIRO FRDC UN Ocean Decade

Everyone check it out! A new razor wrasse species has arrived, named after the Bakunawa: the Swallower of Moons! It has been a fun journey describing this razor wrasse species with KaiTheFishGuy, and shows that we still have so much to learn about reef fishes!

Easy to assume we know about the fishes of Australia and the Great Barrier Reef but this beautiful fish highlights we still have undescribed marine biodiversity. One new fish species is described as new or newly recorded each week for Australia, the count of 5200 still climbing!
