Delighted to write this blog for Clare Cable QNIS about maternal & infant food insecurity as it emerged in our @nhscharity study with parents & early years health professionals about income maximisation. A public health issue that urgently needs more attention!

Great 2 C this messaging by @FEED to Infant Feeding APPG about the importance maternal household food security as a pre-requisite for infant food security, regardless of whether parents choose to breast or formula feed. Dr. Lesley Frank work on this issue in Canada is worth noting too.

Good 2 see a focus on socio-economic & political determinants of infant feeding practices, & the need for govts & society 2 adequately value infant feeding labour. That ‘breastfeeding is not cost free’ was also a welcome message 2 hear @ #ProtectBreastfeeding The Lancet launch!

Delighted that Lindsay & Susan Webb NHS Grampian's Director of Public Health will be joining me as a panel members at this event too. I'm grateful 4 their time & expert input. Looking forward to the discussion with audience members too!

More sobering news from IFAN, that shouldn’t really be a surprise, but important 2 continue 2 highlight. UK society & our governance structures have normalised charity food aid to manage poverty for a decade+, & despite lots of heroic local effort it’s not sustainable or working!

We need to talk about baby formula and what the rising prices are doing to families. Our @skynews piece on the UK’s “hidden crisis”👇 youtu.be/LJYBTQ0n6S4 Produced by Emily Upton Shot/cut by John Anthony ShootEditor

This great video by @IFAN typifies being a ‘critical friend’ 4 people living in poverty & food insecurity, ie. pointing out, from front line experience of doing something practical 2 help people in food crisis, that food banks are not a sustainable solution to the problem.

When parents are skipping meals because they cannot afford formula, when midwives worry about feeds being kept longer than is safe because families cannot afford to waste, "excessive" maternity pay isn't the problem. bit.ly/47MG5Mq
