Three more muscid genera added to Flickr: Limnophora, Neolimnophora and Lispocephala. All flies of wet places, and in some cases saline coastal locations. flickr.com/photos/6307520… Some great bioindicators amongst them, indicating habitat health & presence of key microhabitats.

Butterfly of the Year 2024: Winner - NOT AWARDED, no outstanding candidate. First time it's not been awarded - this was the worst butterfly season of my 61 years... Instead, we have a But-a-Fly of the Year, the Downland Beefly Villa cingulata! Dr Erica McAlister

Flies are enormously important as decomposers & recyclers, and are vital for food chains: numerous birds, bats & fish depend on them. Another role is becoming increasingly recognised: their contribution to myiophily, that is, pollination by flies. Blog @ scottishpollinators.wordpress.com
