Portraits of #MaryAnning No.1: Oil on board, probably by William Grey (1815–85), painted from life, #LymeRegis, February 1842. It may have hung in Anning's shop until her death in 1847 when it passed to her brother. In 1935 his granddaughter presented it to Natural History Museum.

#FossilFriday For bibliophiles, unicorn lovers and fossil enthusiasts alike, a Chinese bookend in the form of a unicorn manufactured from shelly limestone of unknown provenance and age.

It’s so satisfying to see the fruits of our labour come together And if comments from the Private View are anything to go by, I think it’ll be popular 😃 Come & see our FAB (she says humbly 😆) new exhibition Breaking Ground, featuring Megalosaurus! 🦖 #FossilFriday #Dinosaur

The horrifying reality of being a woman, perfectly summarised by Cait O'Ryan If you give even the slightest shit about women, watch it all. This is what it’s like.

Spotting fossils in the limestone of the Yorkshire Dales can be tricky due to all the lichens. A great place to look, however, is in stream beds! Check out these lovely little corals and crinoid stems we saw near Grassington #FossilFriday

#Acritober2024 day 12. Top is a sketch of a rock sample, the different shades of grey are different materials. The green spaghetti traces organic filaments exposed on the surface. The bottom image is a map of only the organic filaments. #Paleoart #Sciart #geology #paleontology

This #TrilobiteTuesday, a juvenile Paradoxides (?) #trilobite from the Middle #Cambrian of Manuels River, #Newfoundland. This wee beastie measures approx. 2 mm in length, and could be the smallest trilobite I’ve ever seen!

I have been to Castleton in Derbyshire scores of times, but today we went somewhere different: we walked up Cave Dale, behind the ruined Norman castle, through a gorge carved in a fossilised coral reef.

We need to drop proxy benefits as a reason for justifying these degrees. It's fucking literature. The fundamental human innovation that keeps us from resetting to the Stone Age every generation. It's the scaffold of civilisation as we know it. Inherently moronic to cut it.

OR are you wasting money on middle management, white elephant buildings whilst the department works itself into the ground as, ooh, almost every literature and language department this has happened to?
