🦉Remarkably comforting.🦉 An owl, perched within the choir stalls at Wakefield Cathedral. A watchful presence in oak - part sentinel - holding the glacial sweep of centuries in its carved gaze.

If you love our material culture—like this detail at Wakefield—and are comforted by continuity, you might enjoy my Genius Loci Digest: an architectural photographer’s camper-van-camino through the British Isles. Posted weekly, free to subscribe: digest.andymarshall.co

✨Sunday read: 'Here’s my chance to have parity with the generations that listen to the final note of Longplayer in 975 years’ time. Here’s my chance to look down upon a thousand-year thread of time and try to comprehend what this building means to me.' digest.andymarshall.co/andy-marshalls…

Not sure why I like this photo so much. I think it's the glimpse of the Georgian beyond the pub and the almshouses. Henley-on-Thames

✨Sunday read: What my time at Burford has taught me is that, beneath the plastic surface, the world is storied, alive, and full of hope. All we have to do is build, film, shape, write, paint, sing, dance - and share it - as if our lives depend on it. 👇digest.andymarshall.co/andy-marshalls…

I was reminded of the original purpose of the C14th Barker Tower in York when sunlight cast a chain like shadow across its facade. It's original purpose was defensive and it held a chain that stretched across the Ouse. There is a reference in 1380 of a 'Keeper of the Chain'.
