Do you like wine? If yes, you should read our recent publication about an unusual wine yeast that produces lactate and ethanol. 👉sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 💥 background story by author Julius Battjes teusinkbruggemanlab.nl/new-insights-i… Thanks Bas Teusink, Ahmad Adel Zeidan, et al! and @Chr_Hansen

Our first stingless bee gut bacteria paper is on bioRxiv! This work was initiated by Carlos G Nunes from @UFAM during his sabbatical & continued by amazing PhD student gsartonl with contributions from @flomazel @Ge_BoRo Joanito Liberti Dr. Sudip Das & two Master student classes @UNIL

Interested in #straindiversity in microbiomes? Check out the new pre-print of PhD student Gilles Baud. We show that core members of the honey bee gut microbiota undergo consistent changes in strain composition as bees transition from nurses to foragers: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

In this new preprint Amélie Cabirol shows that a defined community of bee gut bacteria, but not its individual constituents, promotes cognitive performance in honey bees. This suggests that the effect on the host is an emergent property of the community! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

A core member of the honey bee gut microbiota cannot utilize sugars, yet readily colonizes the gut when bees feed on only sugar 🐝🦠🍯. How is this possible? Check out our new preprint spearheaded by @andrewhq9 and Yassine El Chazli and read the fun 🧵 posted by @andrewhq9 👇

Happy to share doi.org/10.3389/fmicb.… part of the results reached during my PhD at FoodScience_UNIPR . #Rawmilk 🧀owe their popularity to the peculiar taste and aroma in whose formation the autochthonous #microbiota is involved. But which and how #bacteria are present initially?

1/2 🧀 Get ready for a "cheesy" science adventure ! Frank Oechslin et al. have uncovered a fascinating story about Streptococcus thermophilus #phage endolysins. These enzymes have adapted to the high temperatures of cheesemaking by utilizing the calcium found in milk.

After two long incubation periods at the journal's desk, our #metagenomics study on #strain level differences in the bee gut microbiota has been published. Big thank you to Gilles Baud, Kirsten Ellegaard, and to Aiswarya who pushed the paper across the finish line.
