Happy #FossilFriday! This is the skull of a subadult #Einiosaurus (MOR 456 8-8-87-1) from the #TwoMedicineFormation (~75 mya) of #Montana. In a young Einiosaurus like this, the nose horn is small & upright but as Einiosaurus grew it became larger & curved forward over the snout.

Some highlight photos from this year's joint team of #NCSM and #IPMAS in🇲🇳, where the extensive early Late Cretaceous rocks🧗‍♂️ are distributed in the southeastern #Gobi for four weeks, collecting thousands of🦖 and🦕🦴🦴🦴. Since 1995, any #paleocrews haven’t been working around.

How do you know what an animal eats if it doesn't have any teeth? Find out how a turtle's skull reveals its diet! New research by Brenlee Shipps , Brandon Peecook & Kenneth D. Angielczyk: doi.org/10.1002/ar.251…

It’s been a whirlwind week for vert paleo: under the radar my first Masters student, Brenlee Shipps, published the main finding of her thesis. Organismal biologists can use the fine details of tooth shape to infer diet, but what about animals with no teeth? ❌🦷

On this #FossilFriday, Dr. Josh Hedge (He/Him) seems pretty excited (deleteriously so?) about the cast of “Baby Louie,” a perinatal caenagnathid #dinosaur that just arrived on loan to Lindsay Zanno lab @naturalsciences from The Children's Museum. Original 📸: Qinglongshan National Geopark, 2019

Happy #FossilFriday from #Mongolia! Here’s the business end of the exquisite troodontid Gobivenator (found by Chinzorig 😉). One of the many crazy-cool specimens at #IPMAS, who are graciously hosting me & Dr. Josh Hedge (He/Him) before some Lindsay Zanno-led #Gobi fieldwork

Work like this is the standard of excellence that all osteological descriptions of new dinosaurs should aspire too. Thorough, with excellent figures. And well founded inferences. Congrats to Haviv and his coauthors. doi.org/10.1002/ar.255…
