You never know what you might see in the #vineyard. While shoot thinning & removing weeds, I came across some beautiful crown rust (Puccinia coronata) on buckthorn. Do the aecia remind anyone else of coral?

I’m receiving reports of powdery mildew observations in Wisconsin vineyards. While we do not often associate drought conditions with grape diseases, powdery mildew is an important exception and can be a serious problem during periods of dry weather. fruit.wisc.edu/2023/07/13/wis…

We beat the heat this morning to harvest table grapes at the West Madison Ag Station. The greatest vine produced 31.9lb of grapes🍇 We are amazed with the harvest given the early season damage!

This season Leslie Holland, PhD received a lot of emails and phone calls concerning fruit crops showing symptoms of decline often associated with diseases. It’s worth noting that many of the diagnoses she's offered have been linked to drought stress. fruit.wisc.edu/2023/08/22/pla…

Grad student, Courtney (Courtney C Meeks) in the Holland lab, gave an informative presentation to WI #grape growers at the Growing Wisconsin conference on reduced fungicide programs in cold-climate grapes. More exciting work to come as she pursues her PhD in the lab! Wisconsin Fruit News

Fall in the UW Fruit Crops Pathology lab usually means 2 things: we had a great time during our annual corn maze trip (the competition was fierce this year!) and there are plenty of rotted fruits to process! Wisconsin Fruit News SAME Project
