The SPHERES consortium will align US #SARSCOV2 sequencing efforts with other national sequencing programs, including COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) Consortium and #CanCOGen, and with international public health genomics and bioinformatics standards organizations, such as @PHA4GE.

#WhereAreTheyNow • Congratulations to our former scholar, LT Whitney Gunderman for earning her Expert Soldier Badge, finishing the week-long testing without ANY mistakes! Of course, we’d expect nothing less. #excellence

#BehindTheLabCoat Our work is fundamentally intertwined with the concept of translational research and such we are lucky to work closely with renowned physician scientists like our own Estée Torok, a clinical academic working in the Dept of Medicine at Cambridge University & Cambridge University Hospitals NHS.

Scientists CAMBRIDGE FIGHTING COVID and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS have been using genome sequencing and staff screening to identify outbreaks of #COVID19. This has helped limit the spread of infection within the hospital: bit.ly/3iGVPXp Estée Torok Ian Goodfellow WeekesLab #genomics

I am extremely thankful and excited to have been able to learn and work with these fantastic scientists and physicians during the lockdown! The gratitude extends also to Rotary International & West Point Graduate Scholarship Program for this opportunity as a Rotary International Global Scholar!

Throwback to 5 years ago when Tony Fauci, at 74 yo, was suiting up to treat an Ebola patient himself because he "wanted to show his staff that he wouldn't ask them to do anything he wouldn't do himself". This is what leadership looks like. sciencemag.org/news/2015/03/w…

"Studying #COVID19's genome helps highlight cryptic or hidden transmission. That's the real power of it - you can detect outbreaks and act while they're happening" 💬 Estée Torok ✍️ The Washington Post washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/…

Our study on #COVID19 genomic epi in care homes out in eLife - the journal. Take-homes: #SARSCoV2 spreads readily through care homes; a single cluster usually causes most of the cases within each home. Mortality high. Infection control within care homes = priority. elifesciences.org/articles/64618
