Professor Sir Dobson was modest about his achievements. When I thanked him for his help and contribution to the field, he replied "But the secret is that I have a fabulous group. I just keep up with them when I can." Thank you, Chris, for giving us something greater to aspire to.

I got my eye on the cover image of a paper that sums up two of my main research interests: casein and crystallin protein aggregation. Some bloodshot remains👀Needless to say I won't be modelling for L'Oreal. Credit to Mrs Bahraminejad for pouring the milk! pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.10…

It's official... cataract is in part an amyloid disease of the lens: pnas.org/content/116/14…. The new findings highlight the seminal work of Meehan and co (2004; 2007) showing crystallin fibril formation in vitro. What about under crowded solution conditions as found in the lens?

Fantastic work by Carl, Jared, and John which describes why IDPs and regions of intrinsic disorder can favour protein-protein interactions over conformational collapse via an interplay between residue charge, hydropathy and sequence position. Congrats on an 'eye catching' cover!

Our application note describing a method to monitor the early stages of amyloid fibril formation has earned a Digital Marketing Award. Developed at La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science and ANU Research School of Chemistry by Y Hong, Manjeet Kumar and others. Click here for download: bmglabtech.com/novel-aggregat… #amyloids

Having worked with alphaA throughout my PhD, finally seeing its structural model is awesome! Impressive work! Interesting redox activity and conformational differences to alphaB paint a picture of a diverse chaperone pair in the lens. Implications for future work abound!

For Christmas this year a paper has been published by a US team that for the first time 'cures' mice with SOD1 #MND! It is not that this slows the disease, they just don't get MND at all. The main difference from similar attempts - route of delivery... nature.com/articles/s4159…

When you heat up🔥 an egg all the proteins aggregate & precipitate out of solution & turn white🍳. Living cells can protect themselves from this type of stress by activating a heat shock response...

Did you know that Midichloria mitochondrii is an endosymbiont found in tick mitochondria? Its name comes from George Lucas’ midi-chlorians, the organisms present in all living cells that give rise to The Force #MayThe4th microbiologyresearch.org/content/journa…

Do your proteins practice molecular distancing? In this timely piece, Aidan Grosas shows why the molecular chaperone αB-crystallin is best to steer clear of crowded places
