"Make no mistake, the work of change has begun. The patient, calm, determined era of politics as service has begun. Planning – reformed." So does "reformed" mean no notice will be taken of responses to the 8-week, 106-question consultation just closed? tinyurl.com/z9hrmwfm

I responded to the consultation - it’s extremely concerning - it’s Labour informing the countryside that they will kickstart the economy by giving developers free rein to effectively trash it & for good measure they’re pushing it through with a Trumpian culture war NIMBY vs city

It's too bad they don't make steel-spine journalists like Barbara Walters who could look trump in the face and tell him how full of shit he is. This is CLASSIC. 👏👏

Migrants aren't causing the current housing crisis. Corporations are buying all the houses on the market before regular people can make an offer, next question

You know what will help the transition to renewables more? Actually transitioning to renewables and not focussing first on keeping fossil fuel use going with a shortsighted and extremely expensive scheme to spend public money on

The UK government have just announced £22 billion of your money is being handed to big energy companies to fund their Carbon Capture Storage Projects. An explainer here.

At this point in time looking at their support for Freeports, business led devolution, free-market planning changes and fossil fuel led carbon capture, I’m feeling almost as worried about this gov as I was about the last.

When you dig into the hidden detail of the government's carbon capture and storage programme, the sheer scale of fiscal and environmental irresponsibility is hard to comprehend. We could be on the hook for £50 billion, with zero benefit. My column. 🧵 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Structural reforms are needed to reduce investment demand. A major reform of property tax, abolishing council tax & stamp duty and replacing with a 0.5% annual property tax could potentially free up hundreds of thousands of homes Fairer Share wpieconomics.com/publications/t…

A major reform like this could encourage a more efficient use of the existing stock with huge number of under-occupied homes currently held by retired homeowning couples who lack the incentives to downsize as show by Stefan Horn medium.com/iipp-blog/meet…

The planning system also needs to favour those in housing need. Limiting the conversion of primary residences into rental units or second homes and restrictions on short-term lets, as is already being done in Wales, would be a sensible planning reform. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-…

By destroying the environment, local communities and allowing the equity firms who own many of the building firms to fleece people even more! Restrictions are there for a reason, a bonfire of regulations is what freemarket libertarians do - it never ends well

Georgina Allen (@garthur1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Creating a culture war (blockers not builders!) Helps no one other than the construction firm who are the only ones ( & gov finances) who profit from a deregulated planning system. Developers make money from building investments not homes - this is a freemarket free for all
