Done the soundcheck, focused the lights. It’s that moment of calm before the audience are let in, the show begins, and the air is punched.. oof!

First time at Clapham Grand since a historic benefit for the late Phillip Hall – the manager of Manic Street Preachers in 94. The late Shane MacGowan had to be poured out of a bottle onto the stage. John Shuttleworth looked on.. bewildered.

Well I never! Wednesday’s gig Clapham Grand nearly didn’t happen as John’s jacket went missing. Luckily a member of the audience was wearing a perfect replica of John’s vintage leather coat and kindly agreed to lend it. Eternally grateful to Simon Sprackling simon sprackling

Some of my poems are extremely short. For example: If it’s got that swing - what does it mean? But most are longer.. The most exciting thing about this town Is that there’s nothing going on I saw a dog the other day look round When it heard a baby yawn (to be continued)

I should have posted this a week ago, apologies. An in-depth interview with LBC’s James O’Brien. At times I felt like I was talking to a shrink, but I guess that’s all part of James’s inimitable probing style. Warning: contains moderately amusing moments! youtu.be/UuUO6ZVGFYI?si…

Extremely sad to hear of the death of Anthony Ryan Carter, better known as ‘Tosh’. He was the boss of Rabid Records and the man who made ‘Jilted John’ a hit back in ‘78. Tosh also launched the careers of John Cooper Clarke, Slaughter and the Dogs, Frank Sidebottom and others.

They may look like they’re auditioning for Oliver!, but these 2 chaps played significant roles in my musical past. Snuff (on the left) played the drums on my 1985 LP ‘Love at the Hacienda’. And Mog - bass on the original (lost) demo of Jilted John. Consider yourselves my mates!
