Just participated in an emergency meeting with Josep Borrell Fontelles and EU Foreign Ministers regarding the terrible violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. We jointly condemned Hamas’ terrorist attacks in the strongest terms. Civilians must never be a target.

Spoke with my Egyptian colleague Shoukry. We shared our concerns about developments in Israel and Gaza and emphasized that it is crucial that humanitarian aid reaches innocent civilians in Gaza.

Had a phone call with Foreign Minister محمد بن عبدالرحمن of #Qatar. We emphasised the great importance of preventing regional escalation. 1/2

Just spoke with Israeli Foreign Minister אלי כהן | Eli Cohen. I expressed my condolences for the victims of the terrorist attacks by Hamas. We are shocked by the stories of innocent civilians and stand in solidarity with Israel. Our thoughts are with the hostages and their families. 1/2

I also stressed the deeply concerning humanitarian situation in Gaza and the importance of humanitarian access. I emphasised that when Israel exercises its right to self-defense, it must act in accordance with international humanitarian law. 2/2

De humanitaire crisis in #Gaza verslechtert snel. Nederland stelt daarom €15 mln extra beschikbaar voor voedsel, water en medische zorg aan de bevolking in Gaza. Het kabinet blijft aandringen op humanitaire pauzes, zodat de hulp de mensen in Gaza zo snel mogelijk kan bereiken.

Today I am visiting Israel and the Palestinian Territories, where I will have several meetings. I will be talking to various ministers and organisations and will also be visiting the Dutch representations here.

After a pause in hostilities, we are sadly witnessing another surge in violence in Gaza leading to more human suffering. NL calls for military restraint and urges new pauses in hostilities to be agreed upon soon, so that sufficient aid can enter and more people can be released.

Recent remarks by Israeli ministers Smotrich and Ben-Gvir regarding Palestinian resettlement from Gaza are irresponsible. The Netherlands rejects any calls for Palestinian displacement from Gaza or reduction of Palestinian territory. 1/2

I underlined the importance of the EU-Israel Association Council, which should take place soon. We also discussed the continued threat from Hamas and Iran, various urgent consular matters and the necessity that hostages are released as soon as possible. 2/2
