Studio Ghibli was founded 35 years ago this month, so here's my love letter / video essay on what's truly magical about their films. #BBCInsideCinema

Just arrived in the post.. the very posh UHD release of Gints Zilbalodis's FLOW from Curzon Film! I'm chuffed to have contributed a long essay (with a very daft title) about the film, its director, and their incredible journey to awards and box office success.

One of Ghibli’s very best, I wish a theater had it showing today. One of those films you wish you could live in. It turns the ordinary into something beautiful and gives a renews your passion for life. If you’re feeling burnt out lately in this heavy world, give it a shot.

The Animation at War season at Barbican Centre is expanding! In October, we're screening József Gémes's medieval epic, HEROIC TIMES. This is a glorious painted masterpiece of Hungarian animation, and to our knowledge this is the first time the film has been screened in the UK.
