I've handed in a story. And yet am haunted by the question of whether the ground in Massachusetts in November is frozen too solid to bury a body. I don't think it would be. I expect I shall find out definitively once the letters start coming in.

#PLR day! My favourite thing - more than the money, which is v nice - is seeing that things I wrote many years ago are still being borrowed and, I hope, enjoyed. Thousands of people each year read The Mermaid. That it continues to live is a great joy to me. Libraries are magic!

I have this backup notebook that I've been using sporadically since 2017, whenever I can't find my everyday notebook. It's a very special bit of Mermaid and Mrs Hancock promo. It feels sacrilegious to use it up but also really good. What a time in my life that was.

I was browsing some photos of Bristol in the 90s and found one of my dear grandparents' street. And there they are outside their house. I can't express how comforting it is to see this.

Digital facsimile of the Hours of Catherine of Cleves. So many beautiful images to pore over, plus a commentary full of information and just the right amount of sass. themorgan.org/collection/Hou…

When I was 19 I saw Marianne Faithfull on Richmond Hill. It was a very beautiful evening after - for me - a very happy day, and we smiled at each other. It seemed very natural she'd be there, very much in the Ab Fab "God" role. I'm sad she and I no longer share a planet.
