We were honoured to welcome representatives from the cartographic company CBS. We presented our rich cartographic production, 3D laboratory, and eye-tracking technology. In return, we were introduced to the Map Explorer application. We look forward to further cooperation!

During the summer, we fully embrace the university's third mission! We hosted the Science Camp and were also part of the festival team at Colours of Ostrava. A big thanks to everyone who visited us, and to our amazing staff and students who helped make these events possible!

Dr Popelka from our department has been honoured with the prestigious TopScholar title by the ScholarGPS platform, which recognizes scientists' outstanding achievements in their fields. He has ranked among the top 0.5% of scientists worldwide. Congratulations!

We are pleased to announce that Jakub Koníček successfully defended his PhD on "Visual Analysis in the Identification of Infographics in Cartography"! Jakub has taken up the position of assistant, which means he is staying with our department. Congratulation!

During the summer, we embarked on the first phases of the groundbreaking EnCLOD project. In close collaboration with our esteemed partners from CityOne and CITIQ, we crafted a sensor network of immense significance. This network will amass a wealth of data on the city of Olomouc.

We have successfully kicked off the new academic year at the Department of Geoinformatics! 🎓 We welcome more than 50 new undergraduate students in their first year and new Master's students in the Czech program and the English Joint Master Degree in Digital Earth. 🌍Good luck!

🌍 EXCURSION: UHUL & GeoCentrum 🌍 This week, our students explored projects in forestry, GIS, and geoinformatics at UHUL and GeoCentrum! 🛰️🌲 From drone mapping to spatial data analysis, it was inspiring to see how tech is shaping sustainable resource management. 🗺️💻

See the interactive 3D-printed model of St. Wenceslas Cathedral, crafted by Dr. Jan Brus at Geoinformatics UPOL . Featuring illuminated stained glass and 35 parts, visitors can assemble it and enjoy unique views via video mapping. It is now on display at the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum!
