That “VAD is a problem” is technically true but misleading. VAD mainly occurs in very poor countries where many nutritional deficiencies are rampant, and even there it kills or blinds in a small % of cases. 1/3

Actual impact is measures in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), and by this measure, for instance, iodine deficiency is 2x worse, protein-energy malnutrition is 14x worse, and iron deficiency is 19x worse. 2/4

The DALY rate is also dropping faster than any other nutritional deficiency in the world -- WITHOUT any Golden Rice. Anyone who actually cares about malnourished kids instead of just promoting GM crops would be more interested in how the world has actually been mitigating VAD 3/4
