Are you interested in data on fungal ecology? GlobalFungi collects information on #fungi in #soil and every other terrestrial habitat! 🍄 Learn more about this project and how can you contribute to its expansion on #HoliSoils 👇 holisoils.eu/discover-the-g…

Microbes need protection as other organisms do. But we have to understand them first. With the help of GlobalFungi it is now more clear where to focus our research attention. Check the recent paper in Nature Microbiology that suggests how and where to act nature.com/articles/s4156…

The putative global geographic distribution and ecology of the novel fungal species, their hidden diversity among environmental sequences were detected with the GlobalFungi database. Read the full article by Torres-Garcia, Daniel, et al. here mdpi.com/2309-608X/8/8/…

Join us at the upcoming conference in Porto online! On the second day, Petr Kohout will be giving a talk on the topic "How can the GlobalFungi database help to manage fungi in ecosystem restoration?" and other amazing talks by leading professionals in the field.

Check our recent review article on Forest microbiome and global change published in Nature Reviews Microbiology 🥳

Fungi are essential for the functioning of forest ecosystems. With the help of GlobalFungi, it is possible to estimate the potential risks for forest ecosystem functioning under future climate: possible rise of pathogens, threats to ectomycorrhiza: nature.com/articles/s4157…

The EU has passed a groundbreaking nature restoration law and their definition of ecosystem specifically includes fungi. Fantastic to see fungi -- so often invisible -- named in international policy. Read more in The Guardian: theguardian.com/world/2023/jul…

In our new study we estimate that soils harbour 59% of the global biodiversity and are the most species rich habitat on Earth. Over 500 million species/ taxa are associated to soil. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn… @MAnthony02; S. Franz Bender; @uzh_en; @Agroscope; WSL Umweltforschung @wslresearch.bsky.social

In non-symbiotic fungi, that have smaller spores than mycorrhizal ones, geographic range of distribution depends on spore size. Insights, that would be impossible to get without the GlobalFungi database! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

GlobalAMFungal database is out in New Phytologist: doi.org/10.1111/nph.19… Check more here: globalamfungi.com Here is a brief distribution of the samples within the GlobalAMFungi database.

GlobalFungi welcomes their sister database of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi - globalamfungi.com - open for community input or as a FAIR research resource. Missed by fungal barcoding methods or due to low abundance, specific barcoding markers have to be used for AM fungi.

Postdoc position available! We seek a motivated postdoc to join the @HoliSoils (holisoils.eu) and GlobalFungi teams in Prague. The person will study the response of soil microbiome to forest management, disturbance and global change. More: mbucas.cz/wp-content/upl…
