Earlier this week SDI affiliates were at the Urban Reforms Conference in Manchester Some key messages: leveraging specific urban moments is key for urban reform; urban reform coalitions from below have delivered with pilots as sites for reform; the state matters for urban reform!

This week Dialogue on Shelter Trust and Safe and Inclusive Cities 2.0 partners at the review meeting with Plan Int' Zimbabwe. Key messages: models and innovation vital for quality youth programming; green jobs, blending technical skills and soft skills crucial for decent work for young people.

Earlier today . launched its SME policy. Key highlights: establishing SME revolving fund; entrepreneurship development through innovation hubs; transforming SMEs into fully-fledged businesses; registration drive and addressing restrictive regulatory environment.

The #inclusiveurbaninfrastructure team presented findings from #harare, #hargiesa, #colombo & #dhaka at the Rift Valley Institute. Key insights: deepening state-non-state linkages; systems thinking around infrastructure; catalytic facilitation & socially-driven infrastructure.

Last week it was great being part of the 8th Urban Informality Forum at the University of Zimbabwe - very insightful reflections on the state's experimentations and experiences on informal settlement regularisation and titling using Epworth as one example.

Earlier today - engagements with . leadership on preps for the Africa Cities Research Consortium pilot phase in Harare. The latter will focus on Neighborhood & District Economic Devpt. A very timely response in light of the recently launched Harare's SMEs policy.

This week dialogueonshelter initiated a process of developing a climate change response strategy to inform actions under one of thematic pillars in the 2023 - 2027 Strategic Plan. #localisingclimatechangeactions

Earlier today - a youth-led policy engagement between Kariba youths and state actors on recovery actions in the context of disasters like Climate Change and Covid-19. Co-creating recovery actions with often left-out and yet hardest hit groups to help build resilient communities.

A very engaging session we had yesterday looking at pathways towards climate change resilient cities at Univ. of Zimbabwe under the Urban Informality Forum. Key messages: institutionalisation of pilots, scaling and data on vulnerability are vital. Thanks to our terrific speakers!

This week African Cities Research Consortium cities that include Harare, Accra & Nairobi convened in Harare to reflect on and refine the Community Knowledge approach - a grassroots-oriented process aimed at reimagining and revolutionising research in ways that meaningfully amplify community voices.
