“First forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you're inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won't. Habit is persistence in practice.” ― Octavia Butler

I don't care if publishers make a profit or not. I care that journals perform rigorous & transparent peer review, papers are free to read, and charge low (or no) pub fees for authors. Do AAAS journals meet these criteria? science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Once again highlighted in response to a question at the announcement was no NIH R01 or academic tenure at Penn for Karikó but a VP position at BioNTech, a company that produced a highly effective vaccine

I look forward to a day when public attention to important discoveries in biology and medicine don't feature discussions of which journal did or didn't accept the paper describing them.

Another Nobel prize winning paper not published in Cell, Science or Nature. The The Nobel Prize will recognize your discovery, wherever it is published.

I look forward to a day when HHMI, Searle, Beckman & other prestigious agencies reward scientists based on their discoveries and not which journal did or didn't accept the paper describing them

Dan Gorelick (@gorelicklab) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Yes! The Nobel committee will recognize your discovery no matter where it’s published. Will HHMI? Searle? Pew? Hiring & promotion committees?

How well can #GPT4 provide scientific feedback on research papers? We study this Q in our new work arxiv.org/abs/2310.01783 We created a pipeline using GPT4 to read 1000s papers (from #Nature, #ICLR, etc.) and generate feedback (eg suggestions for improvement). Then we compare

Looking forward to the announcer at major professional sports asking for a moment to thank all of scientists for their service to the nation.

Love her humility and perspective. “You don’t have to hold a grudge against somebody, because it poisons you and the other person won’t even remember,” she says. cnbc.com/2023/10/06/nob…

The most blatantly self-serving article I've seen in recent memory. The reason for loss of public trust in science is… that we don't treat editors with enough respect? Yes, editors should be respected. No, that has nothing to do with loss of trust. 1/2 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
