Thank you Jeremy L. Davis MD, FACS. It’s a pleasure serving our patients along with you and the other amazing team members @NCIResearchCtr. I celebrated GC awareness day by speaking on Genetic Counselors’s panel about my passion for the profession. x.com/geneticcouns/s…

Proud to share this major collaborative effort with everyone. I will share my thanks at the end of this thread. But first, I want to share some key points to take away from this paper on #cancer risk due to #CDH1...

8/ Among 213 families with germline CDH1 variants, and over 7000 individuals… First, we showed that the prevalence of gastric cancer was 14% & the prevalence of breast cancer was 26% among the entire cohort…

11/ We demonstrated how family history of gastric cancer influenced cumulative risk. Cumulative gastric cancer risk for someone with up to 3 affected first-degree relatives was 38%, whereas an individual with zero affected relatives had a 10% cumulative risk.

13/ What does this mean? That gastric cancer risk due to CDH1 is not as high as we once thought. Important because our approach to prophylactic gastrectomy should be re-evaluated. We should apply prophylactic surgery sparingly, and on the highest of the high-risk patients.

Proud to be on the same team @NCIResearchCtr with Michaela working to increase awareness in the Black community about the life saving implications of cancer genetic counseling and testing. #genechat, GOLDENDNA
