Question to gene regulation folks: What was the earliest paper showing distance dependence of enhancer activity? The earliest I could find is Moreau et al. NAR 1981, which showed that moving the SV40 enhancer further away from the promoter decreases its expression.

Super excited to present today at Hilde Mangold Symposium !!! If wondering how forelimbs(arms) and hindlimbs(legs) grow at different times in our body (and other mammals) come to see my talk ! #InTimingWeTrust, #SDB2024

Loss of ETS sites in the ZRS enhancer of Shh has been linked to limb reduction in snakes. Here is another example of independent ETS site mutations in the ZRS linked to fin reduction in some lungfishes. Congrats to all authors of this tour de force study! nature.com/articles/s4158…

This is a fascinating article about the discovery of the first transcriptional activator gene. Jacob, Monod and others were skeptical of the positive control model. Of course today we know that it's much more widely used mechanism than repression. dx.doi.org/10.1534/geneti…

My favorate piece of my postdoc work is published! We fused our favorite TFs with a deaminase domain that induces point mutations in DNA, mutagenizing TF binding sites across the genome. Will be a great reagent for exp. evo., as its name suggests :) academic.oup.com/mbe/article/41…

Enhancers have piqued the interest of researchers since their discovery in the early 1980s. In his lab UC Irvine, geneticist Evgeny Kvon studies how they regulate gene expression during mammalian development. Learn more in this interview: bit.ly/3MtvoES

First look at the genome sequence of Greenland shark to find possible clues that could explain their mind-boggling extreme lifespan of up to 400 years. - 70% of the genome is repetitive elements - many uniquely duplicated genes, many related to DNA repair pathway - p53 is not

We had a spectacular Structural Birth Defects/Anomalies meeting at Baltimore the past two days. Rolf_Stottmann and Irene Zohn were the co-organizers and, along with the organizing committee did an amazing job. Society for Developmental Biology provided logistical support and were amazing as always. /1
