The Power of Industry in Medicine is tremendous, and the COST of speaking Truth to Power is real. This is one example of how industry attempts to influence the narrative within medicine. WesternTrauma Prytime Medical Devices, Inc. - is the largest suppliers of REBOA catheter in the U.S. 🧵

This is based on a study that was done where the following abstract was submitted and accepted to WesternTrauma: "The Undisclosed Disclosures: The Dollar-Outcome Relationship in Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta in Trauma"

This study by Bellal Joseph and team looked at the relationship between physicians and the #REBOA industry evaluating Conflict of Interest (COI) disclosures. It is one of many studies that has looked at COI in disclosures: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30053509/

What I want to see is how WesternTrauma is going to respond to this. We must not be bullied by powerful corporations. I hope you publicly respond to Prytime Medical Devices, Inc. & that you RECORD and display the presentation so there is no confusion about what is presented. #MedTwitter

All eyes are now on the WesternTrauma leadership. Will they stand for the principles of academic freedom, peer review without pressure, and open discussion at a scientific meeting…

We will find out Tuesday morning. I will be in the audience, along with a thousand more, to bear witness WesternTrauma

Very important talk by Bellal Joseph at #WTA2023 on REBOA COI. Calls to mind Tom Fogarty’s famous quote that “No conflict = no interest”.

Tom Fogarty, one of most important surgical innovators ever: “No conflict = no interest”! Bravo Bellal Joseph

Well, that's a wrap on #WTA2023 at Lake Louise. Great science, skiing, socializing, and continuing the #FellowshipOfTheSnow . Thanks to our prolific social media members and friends, over 4M impressions and lots of great discussion! See everyone next year at Aspen Snowmass

Our very own Dr. Alexander DiBartolomeo (Alexander DiBartolomeo), integrated resident and current research fellow, presents his work on complex endovascular aortic repair at the Berne Symposium at Keck School of Medicine of USC @KeckMedUSC USC | LAG Surgery.
