On this day 40 years ago Argentina invaded and occupied the #Falklands40 islands (below). 2nd Battalion Scots Guards and 1st Battalion Welsh Guards deployed in the naval task force to retake the islands.

It was on this day 40 years ago that Sir Galahad was bombed by the Argentinians and caught fire. 32 Welsh Guards, waiting to land on the Falklands,were among 48 killed. The survivors took part in later battles to recapture the islands.

40 years ago the #Falklands40 War was ending. The Scots Guards had just captured Mount Tumbledown and the Welsh Guards Sapper Hill . The Argentinians started to surrender.
