Right now, small businesses with fewer than 15 employees are exempt from the Civil Rights Act, which protects LGBT individuals against employment discrimination. We should introduce legislation removing that exemption and see how small business reacts.

Matt Darling 🌐🏗️ Fun conservative “nut-picking” exercise is to find a moment where forecasters got unemployment rate predictions wrong and then use it to discredit economists’ answers on basic questions like “will lowering taxes raise the deficit”, “will raising tariffs increase prices” etc

"Floods", by Dev Patel, is one of the more astounding Big Data econ papers I have ever seen. Machine learning can be used on satellite data to essentially do magic. How damaging are floods? How much do they affect human capital attainment? A thread on the paper 1/

Fun fact but "children who grow up in homes with few books do worse in school, so we should give them more books" is quite literally the textbook example of a confounding variable (how much the *parents* value learning and education)

"Trump Accounts" would do nothing to close the growing wealth gap in America. Congress should reject them and instead pass Baby Bonds—a serious, inclusive, and economically sound proposal for advancing economic justice. Darrick Hamilton and I explain why in Washington Post Opinions.

1. Trump's tax cuts overwhelmingly help the rich 2. His spending cuts are targeted at the poor 3. Tariffs cost the poor a larger share of their income Roll these three regressive policies together and you get the largest redistribution from poor to rich in American history.

If the Pacers (and Carlisle) can pull off *2 more wins - they will have navigated one of the toughest paths to a championship in NBA history.

(((Matthew Lewis))) cults & consequences I actually disagree with the "marginal dollar" way of thinking about this. Fares and taxes are both ways of generating revenue. The question is *for the revenue generated by fares*, would it be better to use taxes instead. There are args to be had but it's a different question.

Whether free transit will work is irrelevant, this has always been about winning messages for elections, and candidates that strengthen transit. Most roads are already free, why not MESSAGE that transit should be accessible to everyone, but with clearer political language.

One of the trickiest open questions in healthcare econ: -What is the average hospital's Marginal Revenue Product from a new resident? (paid <$100k, less than a traveling nurse) -If the MRP of a resident exceeds their wage, why don't hospitals self-fund more residency slots?
