So Meta and Apple apparently have issues being regulated by the EU AI act. Apparently it's too difficult for two of the world's biggest companies to comply, whilst it is no issue for plenty of smaller ones. Smells pretty fishy.

I have been wondering, how much of the legal industry is just based around encouraging people to have long, drawn out arguments they didn't need to have?

Opening Twitter these days feels like banging your head against the wall 100 times in a minute. What happened to the whimsy and the fun and the exciting nuggets of the internet. I want that back. I didn't appreciate it enough at the time.

The problem is clearly it needs more text data from the internet. It's been working well so far, Sam and co wouldn't lie to us they've proven their integrity, right? In other news, I can't wait for the GenAI bubble to finally pop.

I gave this warning back in January. After what we have seen in the riots in our own country this summer & in the elections in Germany yesterday it seems more relevant now than ever. I fear any return to austerity could be the spark that lights this fire. theguardian.com/politics/2024/…

Voting to scrap the two-child benefit cap and lift 330,000 kids out of poverty = Labour whip withdrawn Renting out properties that have mould and ant infestations, with tenants threatened with eviction if they complained or claimed housing benefits = Labour whip intact 🤔

1) release new chat gpt with overhype promises about it's performance 2) get a load of fan boys to build on that hype 3) open source model does comparably well in benchmarks 4) people realise the marketing hype you sold was just bullshit 5) repeat

This doesn't solve the core issue (pun intended) of the unsustainable direction that AI is taking -- using huge models for things that can be done with smaller, more efficient ones. You simply don't need an LLM for everything, even if it's nuclear 😬 bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
