Today, Harkness Roses and We Too Built Britain launch the John Ystumllyn Rose, named after the first ever recorded black person in north Wales. In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth we must ensure that the Ystumllyn Rose blossoms as a symbol of friendship, love, kindness and community.

Introducing The John Ystumllyn Rose 💛 We have joined joined forces with the We Too Built Britain campaign to create what we believe might be the first ever rose to be launched that is named after an ethnic minority Briton. Shop now: roses.co.uk/john #RoseForJohn #BlackHistoryMonth

The video that George Herd created about the John Ystumllyn Rose is so poignant. So glad we get to hear from Philip Harkness of Harkness Roses - one of the finest rose breeders in the world. You can see the joy & pride of everyone in creating this rose - bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-wal…

I log onto the BBC front page, and whose face should greet me, but my trail-blazing friend Zehra Zaidi, pictured with the John Ystumllyn Rose, launched in honour of one of Britain's first black gardeners. Almost a year ago on the #RHSPodcast, Zehra Zaidi told us the remarkable story of John Ystumllyn, an 18th century African who was abducted and brought to North Wales. He became a gardener and the first well-recorded black person of the era to live in that region.

Zehra is back this week to mark Black History Month with some fantastic news – a new rose had been launched by Harkness Roses to commemorate John’s life. It’s believed to be the first rose named after an ethnic minority Briton. Listen here 👇 podfollow.com/rhs-gardening

Find out about the how our friend David Domoney is working with us to spearhead the revival of the garden rose when he features on today’s episode of #ThisMorning Tune in from 10am on ITV.

It’s nearly time to tune in to ITV to catch up with David Domoney and the team on #LoveYourGarden. From 9:25am, the team will be in Hampshire creating a garden for a life-long volunteer.

It’s nearly time to tune in to ITV to catch up with David Domoney and the team on #LoveYourGarden. And at 10am David is joining Alan on #LoveYourWeekend to chat about garden pollinators.

I was honoured to be invited to Buckingham Palace today to plant the John Ystumllyn Rose in the rose garden for her Majesty, Royal Family & the public to enjoy. Together with Harkness Roses, myself & We Too Built Britain created this rose as a symbol of friendship, community & tolerance.

🌹The John Ystumllyn rose is planted in the Buckingham Palace Garden. Believed to be the first rose in the country to be named after an individual from an ethnic minority background, it was launched by We Too Built Britain - who tell the stories of under-represented people in Britain.
